Dot Allison is a Scottish singer, songwriter, and composer whose work spans from the ambient textures of trip-hop to the organic warmth of folk. She first gained recognition in the early 90s as the vocalist and cowriter for One Dove, whose debut album Mourning Dove White became a cult classic of the era’s electronic underground. Her breathy, almost translucent voice floated above the dub rhythms and gained her instant recognition in the UK electronic scene.
After One Dove, Allison launched a solo career with Afterglow, an album that blended downtempo beats with lush orchestration and melancholic lyrics. In her most recent albums, such as Heart Shaped Scars, Dot has stripped the instrumentation down to allow her voice and lyricism to carry the songs, imbuing the album with a haunting vulnerability. Across collaborations with Massive Attack, Death in Vegas, Scott Walker, and Paul Weller, Dot Allison’s voice has remained her defining instrument – permeating all of her projects with a celestial beauty.
