We have produced a plugin that affords a new level of character and realism to your work as a composer and storyteller. Whether that be using it as a means of describing your live string intentions to your client at demo-stage or indeed as a centrepeice of your work where budgets do not permit expansive live elements.
This plugin offers wholly original, deeply multi-sampled and never-before-heard articulations born of a shared goal between the players and producer to make something entirely new, wholly spirited, full of human surprises with a wide variety of story-telling possibilities. Each articulation offers a full compliment of dynamic potential. With multi faceted control at your fingertips to ensure you remain in command of the desired narrative.

kintsugi
/ˈkɪntsəɡi/
Kintsugi (also spelled kintsukuroi) is the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery and ceramics by joining the pieces together with a lacquer (such as urushi) mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
Our first library using a "fragmentary" approach to sampling to produce a truly realistic multi-sampled virtual instrument not made from samples but fragments of a performance to give the user as close an experience to working with a live band without picking up the phone and booking one.
The end result is a plugin with notable scope (22 unique articulations/playing styles with longs samples matched with a compliment of short and plucked), dynamic range (up to 4 layers for longs and shorts) humanism (up to 15 round robins per articulation).
As a group of composers we, the Crow Hill team found the realism, surprises, soul, inspiration and energy that we draw from this library surpasses anything we have experienced using a strings vst thus far (including the ones we've made!).
THE BAND
Described as 'vivid and intense' (Arts Desk album review 2025) and playing with 'unfettered passion and a sense of forward momentum' (BBC Music Magazine 2025) Brother Tree Sound formed in 2017 out of a love for the powerful intimacy of the string quartet. Built around the talents of Anna de Bruin, Thea Spiers, Edward Keenan and Eve Littlefair, they are deeply connected by a passion to explore the great canon of the string quartet repertoire as well as staying tuned to the continuous shifting landscape of today's broader music scene.
Dedicated to the performance of new music their work includes regularly commissioning composers to write for them. They have given world premiers of many new works over the past year championing many other contemporary composers work alongside. Earlier this year, they released a recording of one of these commissions 'hope spiral' by Ben Nobuto on NMC records, which has been nominated for an Ivors Academy award for Best Small Scale Composition. Their album of early 20th century French quartets by Ravel, Tailleferre, Milhaud and Durey on First Hand records has been received to international critical acclaim with glowing reviews on Radio France and BBC radio 3 record reviews gaining a 4 star review in BBC music magazine.
